Who We Are
The Cowboys are an all-inclusive, nationally ranked, dedicated team of wrestlers in Cochrane, Alberta. Our goal is to grow responsible athletes who above all respect others, know the value of hard work, team work, and dedication, and who model honour and sportsmanship. These values are at the core of the Cowboys Team.
Wrestling is a journey of personal growth. We aim to equip our athletes through quality coaching, leadership opportunities, and an appreciation for our sport. We expect our athletes to mature as wrestlers and individuals, and then contribute back to the team and society. Success in our program is not measured by medals and trinkets, but rather positive growth in the individual!
Our Achievements
Our club has had tremendous success in various areas! The Cowboys were named the Top Ranked Wrestling Club in Alberta in both 2014 and 2015 and have been the ASAA Provincial Champions 18 times. Our wrestlers have acquired National rankings in both Greco and Freestyle, and won 16 medals at the Canadian National Championships.
Four of our wrestlers have gone on to represent Canada on the International stage where they won three Pan-American Wrestling Championship medals. Several of our alumni have earned scholarships at the University level, and still come home to coach and mentor the current Cowboys team.
Our Coaches
Not only do our coaches love wrestling, they’re also passionate about developing character and values in our athletes. Under the leadership of our Head coach Gord Peavy, our volunteer coaches go beyond the mats to make the Cochrane Cowboys the perfect team for your child. Learn more about our coaching team below.

Vaughn Gandy
Hi, my name is Vaughn, my passion started in 2003 when I was introduced to wrestling in gym class. From there I join the school team, and continued with competitive wrestling for the next decade.
My experience includes Rebels Wrestling, Diefenbaker Chiefs, Junior Dinos, University of Calgary Varsity, and Junior Nationals Team.
Coaching with the Cowboys allows me to continue my passion with wrestling, develop my coaching skills and help athletes improve their athletic abilities. It’s my hope to help further the sport of wrestling and encourage a welcoming and open environment to all participants.
Curtis Hooper
I have two kids with the club now and love seeing them enjoy the sport as much as I did when I wrestled in high school.
The best part of coaching for me is seeing and getting to be a part of the all the kids’ growth, both on the mat and off.
