There’s nothing more thrilling for the Cowboys than to host a province wide tournament and invite all our friends. With new faces and old rivals all under the same roof, the 2017 Alberta Open started with a bang and kept us hopping from start to finish! And what a day for the Cowboys…
Elementary Cowboys Sweep the Open
Watch out world! The Cowboys are unleashing the Elementary Wrestlers in Cochrane and THEY. ARE. FIERCE. Our belles of the Kids Class – Grace, Annika, Clara, and Danyka wrestled their way to golds in each of their weight classes, winning first for Kids Female Class! Noah, Nick, Ben, and Marcos each dominated their Kids Class, bringing home a gold, two silvers and bronze respectively. Our Novice Group – what a group! – proved to be a force not easily swayed. Tereza, Tsuyoshi, Aaron and Toby wrestled their way to gold; Julia, Austen, Morgan, Rylan and Finlay swept the silvers, and Kayel, Nolan and Riley fought hard for bronze. Iden and Elio took fourth and gained valuable experience for their first year. Both Novice Females and Novice Males took Team firsts for the Cowboys! AWESOME!!! The Tykes – little and mighty – wrestled with all the heart of true Cowboys! While there were no official standings for tykes, these four won gold in our hearts. Well done Kate, Beckham, Chase and Ryuji!

Our littles let it be known that you don’t have to be big to be mighty!! So proud of all you Elementary Cowboys! Wrestle On!!!
JR/SR Cowboys leave it all on the mats
The JR/SR Cowboys are a force to contend with! They’ve worked hard this season, and they left EVERYTHING on the mats!
Don’t mess with our Bantam Gals! Jaityn, Catherine and Autumn brought their “A” game and took two silvers and a bronze. Keath dominated bringing home a gold, with Eli and Reid earning hard-fought fifths for the Bantam Boys. Our Cadet Ladies Danica and Naomi took gold and fifth respectively. Amazing showing by our Cadet Males with newbie Tyler and Connor P each taking Gold, Elijah winning silver and Isaiah the bronze. AWESOME! Congratulations guys for winning a Team Third in the Cadet Males Category! The Juvenile Dream Team Connor P, Hunter, Brendan and Connor S swept 3 Golds and a Bronze, winning the Team Juvenile Males First Place. Brendan also brought home silver in the Junior Class, with Vernon fighting for fourth.
Congratulations also goes to Brendan on winning Outstanding Male Juvenile Wrestler!
Amazing work Cowboys!! You give the Elementary Cowboys an example to follow and athletes to look up to. Well Done!!!
And of course, we cannot forget to thank the AMAZING Cowboys Coaches for all the time, energy, sleepless nights, organizing, encouraging… everything they put in to Team Cowboys to make it a fun, safe, engaging, welcoming place to belong! We LOVE our Coaches!
